Visual Scribing

How long is half a day of scribing?

Half day is up to 4 hours (For example, 9am - 1pm or 2pm - 6pm) Full day is up to 8 hours. Extra hours can be negotiated.

What do you work on?

The type of surfaces we typically draw on include paper, whiteboard, foamboard, moving walls, office walls, tablets.

What's the difference between live, digital and remote scribing?

Live scribing and digital scribing happen in the room of the event.
Digital scribing uses tablet technology and an online gallery to share the artwork. This is a great option if social media is incorporated into your event. Remote scribing is dialled into the event from an outside studio and typically appears on a large screen in the event, or it can also appear online. For example, we have remoted in from London to New York, New York to Switzerland and London to Hamburg.

How do I work with the scribe in the room?

We're a friendly lot.  If you want to give some input whilst the scribe draws - perhaps to explain any acronyms that pop up or to give additional context - step right up and whisper in their ear or put your idea on a post-it.

Do you supply the artist's material?

Yes, we can supply the artist's material if you prefer.

What do your expenses include?

Expenses can include specialist resources such as pens, paper or foamboard as well as travel and accommodation. We only ever charge you at cost what we incur and we sign off expenses with you. If using a local scribe, we estimate that expenses are 5% - 10% of the booking fee. If national or international travel is involved, we estimate that expenses are 10% - 20% of the booking fee. Please get in touch to discuss your project further.

Does it happen in real time?

Yes, our artists draw at the same time as the content is presented. But, the live scribe process isn't like an RSA animate where the voice and the image happen simultaneously.  Rather the scribe listens, processes and draws their interpretation.  Because we have discussed beforehand the key messages and purpose of the event, the scribe uses the brief as a compass from which to interpret what they hear.

How can you scribe the key messages of a subject that you aren't an expert on?

Our scribes are not experts on car manufacturing, global economics or talent frameworks.  They are brilliant listeners and interpreters which is why are they able to pull out ideas to make new connections and get to the heart of a story.

planning

How much space do you need?

We can adapt to the needs of your venue.  If you only have enough space for a flipchart, then we can use a flipchart.  Or if you want us to create a big mural on a wall, we can do that too.

Do you need to know about the content before contacting?

It would be helpful for us to know the topic for the event. The scribe will capture the message in the room.

output

What might an output look like?

It all depends on what your event is.  We can create knowledge walls, product life-cycles, timelines, vision boards, commitment boards, roadmap, t-maps, business models, day in the life, customer experience journeys, visualise conversations, presentation, pitches.  Really the list goes on so best to tell us more about your event and we'll work out how we can draw it.

What's a knowledge wall?

Imagine your event from beginning to end drawn up like a mural.

When can I expect the digital outputs?

We usually take between 1 - 3 working days to turn around the digital versions.  If you want the scribe images turned around on the same day, we can do this, but it often requires an additional cost.

What types of films do you create?

We create films for a wide variety of purposes and initiatives, ranging from one-off promotional product or service videos to multi-channel communication or engagement campaigns. Our global network of filmmakers is experienced in creating interactive films, branded content, as well as event coverage and animations that influence, engage, and inspire diverse audiences.

What is interactive film?

In simple terms, an interactive video is one that requires active participation from the user. This could be as simple as pressing / clicking a button onscreen, answering a question, or making a decision - anything that requires input and informs what happens next. It differs from traditional video as the user becomes an active participant in your story, allowing them to form their own journey or explore content at their own direction and pace.

What does the film process look like?

The exact production process can vary depending on the type of film we are creating. However, the foundations remain the same.  As with every project we deliver, we use a collaborative, iterative process with multiple touch points to provide ample opportunity for feedback. Typically, we begin with scripting and storyboarding before moving to the filming and editing process. We then iterate several drafts of the video based on your feedback to sculpt the perfect version of your story.

How long does it take to make a film?

Unfortunately, there is no universal answer to this question. It very much depends on the type and scale of production. For example, an event film may only take a few days to complete, whereas a large campaign film with lots of special effects could take months. Prior to commencing any project, we provide a delivery schedule outlining timelines and key milestones. We are also happy to suggest ways to expedite certain elements of the process to turn around a film in a shorter space of time.

How much does a film cost to make?

In short, it depends on various factors such as scope, duration, location and complexity of the production. We are always happy to make recommendations and provide a range of options to tailor a video to your budget. Feel free to get in touch to discuss your requirements and we will provide a proposal.

Are there any other costs associated with creating a film?

All our production costs are transparent and available upfront. However, there may possibly be additional expenses as part of a project such as logistical elements (travel, accommodation etc) or production costs (music licensing, voiceover artist fees etc). We always make it clear if these are required and provide a range of options before proceeding. Typically, we estimate that expenses are 5% - 10% of the project value.

Animation

What styles of animations do you create?

We create a wide range of animations, from whiteboard to explainer style videos to motion graphics and fully realised 3D pieces. Plus, our global network of scribes means we can find the ideal illustration style to bring your story to life. And if you feel really lost, we have a demo reel we can share to help pick out your preferred animation style.

What does the animation process look like?

As with every project we deliver, we use a collaborative, iterative process with multiple touch points to provide ample opportunity for feedback. The animation process itself starts with scripting and storyboarding before moving through to creating the artwork and then animating it to bring the visuals to life. We then iterate several drafts of the video based on your feedback to sculpt the perfect version of your story.

How long does it take to make an animation?

It can vary, depending on factors such as length and complexity, but generally we recommend allowing 3-4 weeks to create an animation. We find this allows for a relaxed iteration and sign-off process, without the need to rush creative decisions. However, certain elements of the process can be expedited to turn around a video in a much shorter space of time.
